The perfect diameter

Determining the correct diameter of the chandelier for your room is the first task and this is how. The length and width of the room should be measured in feet; the two numbers need to be added together. An example is, a room 8 feet wide by 12 feet long, the total will be 20 feet. That figure needs to be changed to inches, so 20 inches will be the diameter of the chandelier. A 20-inch chandelier will be perfect for a 8 feet by 12 feet room. In a dining room, the chandelier will need to have a diameter 12 inches less than the table’s width. As a golden rule, chandeliers are better to be too big, than too small.

The perfect length

The length of the chandelier needs to be measured and the taller the ceiling, then the taller the chandelier can be. As a guide, an entryway chandelier can hang roughly 7 feet off the floor. In a dining room, there should be at least 30 inches from the bottom of the chandelier to the dining room table or table top in a room with a 8 feet ceiling.

The perfect location

Generally most people hang a chandelier in a dining or living room, but there are other locations that can benefit from these lighting fixtures. Kitchens, bedrooms and even bathrooms will look fantastic with a hanging chandelier. A chandelier with a dimmer switch will be ideal for a bedroom and for those romantic evenings. Mini chandeliers over a bathtub is another ideal location and over a kitchen island too.

The perfect style

Chandeliers look great in any room and there are plenty of different styles available from classical to contemporary to modern. For rooms with a modern or industrial theme, we would recommend a contemporary or a modern crystal chandelier. Homes or room with a Georgian or classical décor will need a classic designed chandelier like a rustic chandelier.

Adjustment

The height of a chandelier can be adjusted with pliers if it has a chain or a sliding adjuster. With a chain, use the pliers to remove links and then coil up the electrical wire in to the ceiling housing. If the chandelier has a sliding adjuster, then the sliding mechanism will allow the cord to lengthen or shorten as desired.
